Housed inside the historic Railway Exchange Building, also known as the Santa Fe Building, the Chicago Architecture isn’t really a destination as much as an amazing arts organization dedicated to educating the public about Chicago’s incredible architectural history. The Sante Fe Building itself houses the Chicago Model, an incredibly detailed, 400 square foot model of the city. But the real treasures of CAF happen outside its four walls. CAF puts on the OG Chicago architectural boat tour, which if you’re an out-of-towner is as essential to your visit as a trip to Wrigley Field or the Skydeck at Willis Tower. All summer long, jump aboard the Chicago’s First Lady Cruise, where docents will rattle off nuggets of architectural intrigue on over 50 of Chicago’s landmark buildings along the river. The twilight cruise is particularly good, and don’t be surprised if you catch a proposal or two.
