South of downtown is Chicago’s bustling Chinatown neighborhood. While thankfully not as touristy as its cultural counterpart in San Francisco or Los Angeles, Chinatown in Chicago is lively, and, you guessed it: full of good food. On your way to dim sum, consider checking out the Chinese-American Museum, which explores the rich cultural history of both Chinese immigrants and their descendants in Chicagoland and the rest of the midwest. The museum opened in 2005, but after a brutal fire in 2008 was forced to shutter. They reopened in 2010, reclaiming their status as a cultural and neighborhood landmark. Exhibitions range from the more historical to art of all disciplines, so come to be surprised.
