When was the last time you left the city? If you’re feeling the itch, we’re sending you to Morton Arboretum. When founder Joy Morton established MA in 1922, his vision was for a “great outdoor museum.” He got his wish. Located in the western suburb of Lisle, IL, the arboretum is nothing short of Midwestern paradise. Expansive doesn’t really do it justice. We’re not exactly math people, but the numbers here are astounding: 4,300 species of 222,000 live plants on 1,700 acres. Wild.
There are no parts of the grounds that aren’t amazing, but the one-acre Maze Garden is an absolute must. And if you’re into this kind of thing here are 16 miles of trails that range from easy to more moderate for all your exercise freaks. We’ll be somewhere else, napping. The Morton Arboretum is open daily from 7am until sunset.
